The lone frontier fort in the North Carolina colony, Fort Dobbs served as both military headquarters and safe-haven for settlers before it was left in ruins in 1766. The property features the original archaeological site of the fort, along with artifact displays and an annual re-enactment of the Battle of Fort Dobbs. The site is located directly north of Charlotte, in north Statesville.
